Library Buildings Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials documenting the planning, construction, and renovation of library buildings at Lawrence University. These buildings include the Carnegie Library (1906-1962), the Samuel Appleton-Carnegie Library (1962-1974), and the Seeley G. Mudd Library (1974-present). Correspondence, newspaper clippings, planning documents, contracts, dedication programs, and photographs are included in the collection.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of records of literary societies at Lawrence University, including the Amphictyon, Athena, Lawrean,  Philalathean, Philal-Athena, and Phoenix societies. Records date from 1851 to 1925 and include meeting minutes, correspondence, programs, photographs, scrapbooks, and song books.

May Day Collection

Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of records documenting the celebration of May Day, a spring tradition at Lawrence from 1906 to 1966 and revived for one year in 2007. May Day celebrations typically involved the crowning of one of the senior women as May Queen and dancing around a May Pole. Parades, folk dancing, and other events were also incorporated in some years. Photographs, programs, and articles make up the bulk of the collection.

Scope and Contents This collection is composed of materials documenting the history of the Memorial Chapel, the main auditorium and concert hall for Lawrence University, built in 1918.
