Early Appleton Photographs Collection

Scope and Contents This collection contains written manuscripts, typewritten notes, and a series of photographs depicting sites, houses, and other structures from early Appleton history. Some people are also shown. The photographs were printed from negatives owned by Anna L. Tenney of Appleton and compiled into three volumes by Lawrence professor of history John Brainerd MacHarg and some of his students in about 1922.

Scope and Contents This collection is composed of records documenting the first seven presidents of Lawrence University: William Sampson (1849-1853), Edward Cooke (1853-1859), Russell Mason (1859-1865), George Steele (1865-1879), Elias Huntley (1879-1883), Bradford Raymond (1883-1889), and Charles Gallagher (1889-1893). Scope and Contents The Edna Wiegand Collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, materials from her travels, photographs of Dr. Wiegand and her immediate family, her Doctorate of Philosophy degree from Columbia University, and her honorary Master of Arts degree from Lawrence University. Wiegand graduated from Lawrence University in 1911 and taught in the Classics department from 1923 to 1952.
