Biographical Note

Notes from her daughter, Liz Horn:
Catherine Vroom Holyoke (1918-1983) was born in East Troy, WI. She graduated from Riverside High School before attending Milwaukee-Downer College as a day student. She majored in Occupational Therapy with lots of emphasis on sports. After graduation, she married George J. Lentzner III, the younger brother of her best friend and classmate, Jane Winifred Letzner '40, a boarding student. My mother never talked much about college experiences, but she was part of a group of lifelong friends made up of Jane, other boarders, and Margaret Jane Park a day student from the same class. Jane told stories about Betty (?) from Manitowoc who was a shirt-tail relative. Betty used to haul Jane along when the dorm-girls went to the favorite smoking spot, Jane always was quick to say that she never smoked. Betty agreed and said the plan was to push the swee, charming Jane to the front of the group if they were ever caught. After meeting Jane's brother, George, Catherine was encouraged by her five brothers and younger sister to date this Chichago University engineering student because the Letzner family owned a cottage on Lake Beulah and the brothers wrangled invitations from Jane's folks to visit on hot summer weekends.
