This collection contains Dr. Gervais Reed's published articles, book reviews, correspondence, lectures, and translations. Dr. Reed taught at Lawrence University from 1964 to 1996. In January 1996, the French Ministry of Education named him a "Chevalier de l'ordre des Palmes Academiques," a knight in the Order of Academic Palms. He continued to teach from time to time after his retirement. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Reed served for a year as Lawrence University's Dean of Students, managed a summer transitional program from African-American students attending Lawrence University in the early 1970s, and served as president of Appleton's "A Better Chance Program."
