The Institute of Paper Chemistry was established by President Wriston in 1929 to provide technical training for paper chemists, in partnership with the local paper industry. The Institute left Appleton in 1989. The main building for the Institute housed a library, museum, and computer center, and was located across from Alexander Gym.
