Summary Note

Published on the cover of the October, 1943 Lawrence Alumnus. Caption: "A group of the V-12 boys of the present World War exhibiting the famous old battle flag of the Lawrence Guards in the Civil War. This badly tattered emblem was carried by men of Company E, 40th Wisconsin Regiment, commanded by a Lawrence professor, Col. Henry Pomeroy. The flag has been in the College Museum for more than 50 years. The boys displaying the flag are apprentice seamen Robert Pringle, Honolulu; William Neumeyer, Los Angeles; George Schmitz, Stevens Point; Donald McGann, Bismark, N.D.; and Robert Wilch, Appleton."
