Letter from President Samuel Plantz in response to a questionnaire from W. E. B. Du Bois regarding African American college graduates. Du Bois was compiling a report, "The College-Bred Negro American." Plantz reported only one African American graduate from Lawrence - Mary Cleggett Vanderhoop, class of 1876.
