This collection consists primarily of papers documenting Peter A. Fritzell's teaching and research activities as professor of English at Lawrence University, 1966 to 2003. Materials date from 1962 to 2015 and include correspondence, letters of recommendation, publications, lectures and speeches, as well as teaching materials for English and Freshman Studies courses. Materials documenting Fritzell's friendship with poet Jerald Bullis are also included.

Property rights reside with Lawrence University. Copyright for materials authored by Fritzell is retained by Fritzell until the time of his death.

Biographical or Historical Information

Peter A. Fritzell was born in 1940 in Minneapolis, MN. He received a B.A. in philosophy and English from the University of North Dakota in 1962 and a Ph.D. in English and American Literature and Humanities from Stanford University in 1966. In 1966, he joined the English department at Lawrence. He was promoted to associate professor in 1973 and to full professor in 1983. He retired as emeritus professor of English in 2003. He received Lawrence's Excellence in Teaching Award in 1988. Fritzell specializes in American nature writing.

Method of Acquisition

First accession (3 boxes) donated to the Archives by Peter Fritzell circa 2003. Some materials documenting Fritzell's Freshman Studies courses were donated to the Archives by Tim Spurgin, 2009-08-18, who inherited the records when switching offices. Second accession (#2015-06, 6 boxes) donated by Peter Fritzell between 2015-05-19 and 2015-12-07.
