This collection contains the letters of Nancy Kaminski Lyons. They were sent to her Mother and Father in Berwyn,Illinois during her time at Lawrence University, written from July 1957 to May 1961. The collection also contains photos Nancy had of some of the people and places mentioned, and a context document. The most common topics within the letters are; Greek Life, schoolwork and classes, dances and holidays, relationships, friends, food, performances, clothes and fashion, sports, and finances. The contents describe the day to day life of Nancy and her friends. This includes things like; her friend Nancy Jean “Buffie” Nelson Ekdahl’s relationship and eventual marriage to come soon after the last of the letters, or her experiences with roommates, or lack there of, in both Sage and Colman. Greek Life takes up a large part of the letters. She attends dances (like the Valentine’s Day dance, or a ball), events, fundraisers, and mentions her friends in Fraternities or Sororities. There are brief mentions of the Ariel(Nancy was on the staff for some time), music performances at Lawrence, as well as teachers and faculty. The letters often have ‘Nancy Kaminski’ and her residence printed or stamped on them. Notably, one of the letters is written on the back of a 1959 convocation program. The photos depict Nancy and her friends getting together, buildings on campus, winter activities, and school photos.
