Alice Nash White and Kirby B. White Papers

This collection includes personal papers of Alice Nash White, Lawrence University class of 1901, and her husband Kirby B. White, ex-class of 1897 and trustee from 1927 until his death in 1933. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between Henry Wriston and Mr. White dating from his years on the Board, with particular emphasis on the college's response to financial difficulties during the Great Depression. Also included is a photocopy of Mr. White's diary dating from 1917 to 1932.

Method of Acquisition

Articles and biographical information on Alice and Kirby, as well as Kirby's correspondence with Henry Wriston, were removed from the Lawrence University People Files upon processing. This correspondence appears to have originated from Henry Wriston's papers. The photocopy of Kirby's diary was donated to Lawrence by his daughter, Hester White '37, in 1998.
