University Glass Slides Collection

This collection consists of 240 glass slides depicting primarily Lawrence University buildings, grounds, students and faculty from 1898 to about 1930. The bulk of the items are lantern slides which were used for promotional presentations about Lawrence around the Midwest in the 1920s and 1930s. A second series consists of 8 by 10 inch slides; the provenance of these is unknown.

Physical Access Requirements

Several of the slides are cracked and may not be accessible for use.
Technical Access Requirements Slides require a lightbox for viewing.

Method of Acquisition

34 lantern slides (numbers 85-118 in the "Circa 1930 slides" subseries) were acquired from a private seller and subsequently donated to the Archives by Thomas Sutter in 2011. The source, date, and method of acquisition for the remainder of the slides are unknown.

Processing Information

Processed by Erin Dix, 2011. Slides were re-housed in acid-free sleeves and boxes, and many were scanned and saved as high-resolution .tiff files.
