First-Year Studies Collection

Scope and Contents The collection consists of materials documenting the history and development of First-Year Studies (formerly Freshman Studies) a required course for first-year students at Lawrence introduced by President Nathan Pusey in the fall of 1945. Correspondence, schedules and reading lists, committee and grant documentation, and other curricular materials make up the bulk of the collection. Documentation on variations of the first-year core program offered during the 1970s is also included.

Fraternities and Sororities Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of records documenting social fraternities and sororities at Lawrence, dating from 1903 to the present. General files, records from the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils, and records documenting individual chapters of fraternities and sororities are included. Materials include minutes, administrative documents, photographs, scrapbooks, ephemera, and correspondence from presidents of the college pertaining to fraternities and sororities.

Great Midwest Trivia Contest Collection

Scope and Contents This collection contains materials pertaining to the Great Midwest Trivia Contest, an annual contest held at Lawrence University and broadcast over the campus radio station, WLFM, since 1966. The bulk of the collection consists of photographs, newspaper articles, and other publicity concerning the contests from 1966 to the present, as well as the original copies of all questions asked from 1991 to the present. Hamar Union and Memorial Union Collection

Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of materials documenting the history of Hamar Union and Memorial Union, Lawrence University's first and second student unions. Hamar Union was used as a student union beginning in 1926 until Memorial Union became the student union when it was completed in 1951. Correspondence, newspaper clippings, programs, and photographs are included in the collection.
