Biographical or Historical Information

Ethel Schoenbaum Barber graduated from Milwaukee-Downer College in 1934 and earned a Ph.D. in speech from Northwestern University in 1947. James G. Barber graduated from Lawrence University in 1934. Ethel and James married on June 29, 1940. James served as a judge in Chicago and passed away in 1961. Ethel served on the Board of Trustees of Lawrence University from 1968 to 1988 and initiated the Founders Club in 1972. Lawrence granted her an honorary degree in 1985. She passed away in 1999.
