This collection documents Marguerite Schumann's tenure as Director of Publicity and Publications at Lawrence University from 1945 to 1968 as well as her later years in North Carolina. Materials include "Schuie's" personal manuscripts, published articles, correspondence, research files, photographs, recipes, and information regarding her memorial services at Lawrence University and Duke University.

Biographical or Historical Information

Marguerite Schumann graduated from Lawrence College in 1944. After graduation, she worked as the Director of Publicity and Publications at Lawrence from 1945 to 1968. In 1968, Lawrence University presented her with an honorary Master of Arts degree. Schuie then worked in the publication offices at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She died on March 13, 1986. Through her estate, Lawrence University established the Marguerite Schumann Memorial Lectureship Fund. The fund brought various lecturers to Lawrence University from 1987 until the early 2000s.

Method of Acquisition

Accession #2017-01 added to collection, 2017-01-23 and 2017-04-03. Accession #2015-07 added to collection, 2015-06-04. Both accessions donated to the Archives by Philip and Lois Becker. The source, date, and method of acquisition for other materials in this collection are unknown.
