This collection consists of two boxes containing materials documenting Professor Emeritus of History J. Michael Hittle's career at Lawrence University dating from 1965 to 2020 (mostly 1965-2001). This collection includes course materials such as syllabi and exams; talks, lectures, and articles from before, during, and after his time as dean of the faculty; materials related to First-Year (Freshman) Studies; university related publications; evaluations and reccomendations; and additional materials related to scholarship.

Biographical / Historical

J. Michael Hittle entered the history department of Lawrence University in 1966 and retired as Professor Emeritus of History in 2001. His primary teaching interests include Russian history, Byzantine history, historiaography, and modern world history. While at Lawrence, Hittle served as director of First Year Studies from 1978 to 1980 and was dean of the Faculty from 1980 to 1988. One painting of Wriston Art Center presented to J. Michael Hittle in 1989 is also included.
