Residence Halls Collection

Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of materials documenting the history of Lawrence University's residence halls. Ormsby Hall was the first dorm built at Lawrence in 1889, and Hiett Hall is the most current dorm and was built in 2003. Materials in the collection include articles, building plans, correspondence, photographs, and information regarding construction and renovations.

Reunion Records

Scope and Contents This collection is composed of materials documenting Lawrence University and Milwaukee-Downer College class reunions, primarily developed by the Office of Alumni and Constituency Engagement (formerly the Office of Alumni Relations). It includes programs, correspondence, and photographs from reunions dating from 1876 to the present.

Richard Harrison Collection

Scope and Contents This collection documents the tenure of Richard Harrison as Dean of the Faculty and Professor of History at Lawrence from 1992 until his death in 1997. Materials primarily include documentation of his appointment, memorial service, and the research fund and symposium established in his honor. A Lunch at Lawrence address written by Harrison and photographs are also included.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of records of the Select Committee on Planning dating from 1968 to 1970. President Curtis Tarr appointed the committee in 1968 and charged it with investigating the whole structure of the university and making recommendations for change to the faculty. It was chaired by Professor of Government Mojmir Povolny. Records include correspondence and memoranda, meeting minutes, reports, and records of all sub-committees. Shattuck Hall of Music Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials documenting the planning and construction of Shattuck Hall of Music, as well as the coincident renovation of the Memorial Chapel. Correspondence, meeting minutes, building specifications and plans, operational manuals, architectural renderings, photographs, and dedication materials are included. Materials date from 1989 to 1994.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of curriculum records for the Sophomore Divisional Studies program at Lawrence dating from 1956-1961.  Records include reports, surveys, financial documents, photographs, and correspondence.

Special Study Committee Records

Scope and Contents This collection consists of records from the Special Study Committee, a faculty committee appointed to study the curriculum at Lawrence, dating from 1952 to 1955. The work of the committee was supported by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation.  Records consist of meeting minutes, correspondence, and reports (including what became known as the Troyer Report, named for the committee chair, Howard Troyer.)

Stephenson Hall of Science Collection

Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of materials documenting the history of Stephenson Hall of Science, the home of the Lawrence science department from when it was built in 1898 until it was razed in 1998. Correspondence, newspaper clippings, programs, contracts, and photographs are included in the collection. Materials on the 1948 renovation of the building are also included.
