This collection consists of materials related to African-American students at Lawrence, dating from 1869 to 1997. This includes administrative materials related to the recruitment and enrollment of African Americans as well as materials created by African-American student organizations and committees. The bulk of the materials in this collection date from the 1960s and 1970s. This collection was arranged by the Archives prior to 2005.

This collection consists of materials related to several members of the Colman family who attended or were otherwise connected with Lawrence University since its founding, including Henry Root Colman, Henry Colman, and Lucinda Darling Colman. The bulk of the collection consists of Lucinda Darling Colman's handwritten "Memory Pictures," written between 1923 and 1930. Colman recalls her childhood, attending Lawrence in the 1850s, and her travels on the west and east coasts from 1906 through 1914....
