Past Buildings Collection

Scope and Contents This collection consists of materials documenting four academic buildings that no longer exist on the Lawrence University campus: the Academy (or Institute) building, Music Hall (or Peabody/Conservatory Annex), Peabody Hall of Music, and the Underwood Observatory. Materials primarily include correspondence, newspaper articles, and photographs.

Scope and Contents This collection consists primarily of papers documenting Peter A. Fritzell's teaching and research activities as professor of English at Lawrence University, 1966 to 2003. Materials date from 1962 to 2019 and include correspondence, letters of recommendation, publications, lectures and speeches, Fritzell's poetry and nature writing as well as teaching materials for English and Freshman Studies courses. Materials documenting Fritzell's friendship with poet Jerald Bullis are also included.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of the papers of Phyllis Trimberger Schwartz, Milwaukee-Downer College graduate of 1939, dating from 1930 to 2000. The collection documents her years as a student studying Home Economics at Milwaukee-Downer as well as her time as an involved alumna. Materials include course work, textile and stitching samples, photographs, scrapbooks, and correspondence.

Scope and Contents One postcard dated March 5, 1938 in which Shaw writes to Barbara Low about his distaste for book signings. Shaw and Low were both members of the Fabian Society. The card has his home address printed on the top and on the back is the address of Barbara Low along with a stamp with the profile of George VI.

Lawrence in the founding of Lawrence University, and his wife, Eliza Kimball Smith. Residence Halls Collection

Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of materials documenting the history of Lawrence University's residence halls. Ormsby Hall was the first dorm built at Lawrence in 1889, and Hiett Hall is the most current dorm and was built in 2003. Materials in the collection include articles, building plans, correspondence, photographs, and information regarding construction and renovations.

Richard Harrison Collection
